Ayatollah Raisi arrives in Dushanbe

Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, arrived in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Thursday at the official invitation of the President of Tajikistan to attend the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

On his first foreign trip as president, Ayatollah Raisi is travelling to the country at the official invitation of his Tajik counterpart, Emomali Rahmon, to attend and address the SCO summit.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation was established in 2001 with the aim of combating terrorism and extremism and increasing economic cooperation, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been one of its observer members.

In addition to attending the summit, the president will hold bilateral meetings with the heads of delegations present at the SCO summit. The President is accompanied on this trip by a high-ranking delegation of political and economic officials of Iran.

Ministers of 'Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare', 'Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism', and 'Justice' are accompanying Dr Raisi in this visit.
