Ayatollah Raisi in a phone call from the Iraqi PM:

Iran-Iraq ties go beyond neighbouring states, enemies cannot disrupt it/ Regional issues must be resolved by regional states themselves/ Foreign interference in regional affairs doesn't bring security, stability

The President described the relations between Iran and Iraq beyond only two neighbouring countries, and added, "The Iranian and Iraqi nations have common causes, and for this reason, the heavy efforts of our common enemies have not been able to disrupt relations between the two countries".

Speaking on Tuesday with the Prime Minister of Iraq by telephone, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi offered his condolences to the Iraqi government and people on the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), saying, "A strong, independent, united, secure, prosperous and advanced Iraq is not only what we wish, but also the main agenda of the two countries for the development of bilateral and regional cooperation".

Appreciating the invitation of the Iraqi Prime Minister for him to participate in the summit of Iraq's neighbouring countries in Baghdad, Ayatollah Raisi said, "We consider it our pleasure to participate in this summit, and we will support any initiative that brings about stability in Iraq and increases the tole of the country in the region".

The President said that Iraq's initiative in holding the neighbours' summit will bring significant national and regional achievements, saying, "The first achievement of the summit will be exhibiting the authority of Iraq and its role in the region, and the second achievement will be authority for the entire region and that the countries of the region can resolve their issues".

Emphasising that the countries of the region are able to design and implement a roadmap for achieving security, stability and lasting peace in cooperation with each other, Ayatollah Raisi said, "Foreign interference in the affairs of the region is neither a platform for security building and stability, nor a basis for development and progress".

At the same time, the President stated, "As much as we believe in communication and interaction with all countries, we emphasise the fact that only the countries of the region can decide on the fate of the region".

Ayatollah Raisi also stressed the need to solve the problem of Yemen and stop the war in the country, saying, "Everyone should seek to stop the war in Yemen and respect the right of the people of the country to determine their own destiny".

Emphasising the need to accelerate the implementation of joint projects between the two countries, including the Shalamcheh-Basra railway, the President said, "The implementation of agreements and joint projects can lead to further development of relations, especially economic and trade relations between the two countries".

Ayatollah Raisi also thanked the Iraqi government and people for hosting Imam Hussein (AS) pilgrims, and expressed hope that millions of pilgrims would be able to visit the holy shrines as soon as coronavirus is eradicated.

In this phone call, the Prime Minister of Iraq Mustafa al-Kadhimi, also congratulated Ayatollah Raisi on his inauguration, saying, "Your valuable words at the inauguration was the roadmap for relations with the countries of the region and the world".

Expressing hope that the two countries' agreements will be accelerated, the Iraqi Prime Minister said, "Tehran is a real partner for Baghdad and has always been by the side of the Iraqi government and people in difficult circumstances".

Al-Kadhimi said that today the region is witnessing great challenges and solving these issues requires wisdom, patience and cooperation of the countries in the region, adding, "I very much hope to meet the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Iraq's neighbours' summit in Baghdad".

The Iraqi Prime Minister also expressed his condolences on the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions, saying, "Our historic duty is to carry the flag and message of Imam Hussein (AS) and to cooperate and try to solve the problems and challenges we face today".
