President in a phone call with the Iraqi PM:

Iran considers Iraq's security, stability as its own/ Iraqi gov't should show decisive response to recent attack on Iran's diplomatic mission/ Stressing the two countries' cooperation in countering takfiri, terrorist groups' actions

The President stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the security and stability in Iraq as its own, and stressed on the importance of development of relations in countering the takfiri and terrorist groups' actions, who are seeking to undermine the good relations between the two countries.

Speaking with the Prime Minister of Iraq Mustafa Al-Kadhimi on Monday by telephone, President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Eid al-Fitr to the Iraqi government and people, saying, "The ISIL terrorist group is still an important security threat in the region and the two countries' cooperation is imperative for confronting the terrorist group".

Dr Rouhani also referred to the recent attacks on Iran's diplomatic missions in Iraq by some insolent individuals and groups, calling for the Iraqi government's decisive and rapid response to the attacks.

He went on to refer to the United States'  double standards in fighting terrorism and their performance in Iraqi and Syrian borders are ambiguous, saying, "The Americans have always had a destructive role in the region and their presence in Iraq will not contribute to the country's security and stability in any way".

Dr Rouhani also expressed support for Iraq's role in regional interactions as an important member country of the Arab League, welcoming Baghdad's positive role in intervening to resolve disputes among regional states.

The President welcomed Iraq's stances regarding Palestine and condemning the Zionist Regime's recent crimes in the occupied territories and Gaza, stressing, "With respect to Iraq's membership in the Arab League, we expect them to attempt to make the League more active in the Palestine issue".

President Hassan Rouhani also stressed the importance of development of relations between the two countries in different political and economic fields, as well as regional cooperation, saying, "With regard to their economic potentials, Iran and Iraq can cooperate with each other as two complementary economies".

The President referred to the meeting of the joint economic commission of the two countries earlier in 2021, saying, "The implementation and operationalisation of the agreements made in the commission, including the acceleration of implementing the important Shalamcheh-Basra Railway project can be an important step in promotion of Iran-Iraq economic cooperation".

During the same phone call, the Prime Minister of Iraq also congratulated Eid al-Fitr to the Iranian government and people, and strongly condemned the recent crimes of the Zionist Regime in Palestine and the killing of defenceless people in Gaza, stressing that these crimes must be dealt with seriously and decisively.

"In consulting with heads of Islamic countries and the Arab League, we will definitely take a decisive stance in this regard," said the Iraqi PM.

Mustafa Al-Kadhimi also emphasised the importance of serious confrontation with the ISIL terrorist groups in the region and appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran's stance and cooperation in this regard.

He went on to express regret over the attack by some insolent individuals on Iran's diplomatic missions in Iraq and said that the issue is under investigation the perpetrators will definitely be dealt with decisively.
