Speaking on Saturday at the meeting of the National Task Force Against Coronavirus, Dr Hassan Rouhani described the coronavirus pandemic as one of the most important events of the century and said, "In the four remaining months of this government’s term of office, fighting coronavirus, lifting sanctions, people's livelihoods, and finalising projects are the government’s 4 main goals”.

Dr Rouhani said that the virus has not been eradicated or weakened during the last 14 months since its outbreak, adding, "Today, developing a vaccine is one of the main priorities for fighting the disease, and gatherings should still be considered dangerous”.

The President listed fighting coronavirus, lifting sanctions, people's livelihoods, and finalising projects as the government’s four main goals in the four remaining months of the government’s term of office, and added, "The government will do its best to achieve these four goals, and we will definitely have acceptable conditions in the next 4 months”.

Dr Rouhani stated that the coronavirus pandemic has killed about 3 million people according to the official statistics, the number being much higher than this, adding, "In the last 14 months, the Iranian people have faced terrorism and full-scale economic warfare in addition to the coronavirus pandemic”.

“But they have achieved an acceptable record in this field with the selflessness and self-sacrifice of the medical staff and the unparalleled resistance,” he added.

He continued, "Coronavirus has created a new way of life that we have to follow its rules. The virus has not been eradicated or weakened in the last 14 months, and on the contrary, it has become even more mutant and more aggressive”.

Noting that no definitive drug has been developed to treat this disease, Dr Rouhani said, "The most effective way to deal with this disease at the moment is to inject vaccines, developing vaccines in the country and buying and importing vaccines from abroad are our main priorities in dealing with this disease”.

The president stressed that people should quarantine themselves at the slightest sign of illness and see a doctor, stating, “It is not acceptable for someone who is diagnosed with COVID-19 to go to work or attend meetings, or worse, to travel”.

Stating that health protocols should be implemented and observed more carefully than before, Dr Rouhani said, "There is no double standard in observing health protocols, and traffic is carefully monitored at the county’s all official entry points".

Referring to the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, the President said, "According to the discussions and decisions of the National Task Force Against Coronavirus, holding religious ceremonies in blue and yellow cities is free with strict observance of protocols, and in cities with orange and red status, it is forbidden”.
