New policies to prevent and combat COVID-19 reviewed by Cabinet/ President's instructions to review and report on financial and livelihood assistance to low-income groups

The Council of Ministers convened on Sunday in a meeting chaired by President Dr Hassan Rouhani and discussed the government's new policies to prevent and combat coronavirus.

In this meeting, the President issued the necessary instructions to the executive departments, and stated, "Today, the main task of the government is to protect the health of the people and control coronavirus. For this reason, and due to the spread of the disease, the increase in the number of new cases and deaths, and the heavy pressure on the health sector, the government is forced to impose new policies and restrictions in accordance with the opinion of experts, and prevent the spread of this destructive virus with a comprehensive shutdown".

Dr Rouhani then ordered that financial and livelihood assistance be provided to the deprived and then to be reported to the government.

He also called on the people to cooperate in order to achieve the goals of their plan and ensure their health.

The President instructed the ministers of Health and Medical Education and the Interior to explain the broad dimensions of this health and treatment plan to the people.

In the end of the session Dr Rouhani noted, "The government is always ready to accept the opinion of experts".

Following the meeting, a number of proposals of the executive bodies were reviewed and approved by the Cabinet.
