Dr Rouhani leaves New York, heading for Tehran

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran left New York minutes ago, heading for Tehran after attending the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr Hassan Rouhani entered New York on Monday and had a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron of France and Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan on the first day of his visit.

The President also had meetings with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Ministers of Japan and Spain. He also attended a meeting with senior executives of the American media on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Dr Rouhani attended the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly and addressed the assembly, proposing his peace initiative dubbed Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE).

He also had meetings with leaders of Switzerland, Britain, and Sweden, and had an interview with Fox News.

Meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, presidents of Ireland and Iraq and prime ministers of India and Uganda, as well as addressing American foreign policy elites and an interview with ABC News were among Dr Rouhani's other programmes in the visit.

To mark the end of this visit, the President had a press conference with representatives of foreign media, after which he and his accompanying delegation left New York for Tehran.
