Speaking with the ABC News in New York on Wednesday evening, President Hassan Rouhani answered to a question about escalation of tensions in the region by saying, “I think that we are reaching a worse point, and the main solution to that is to address tensions from its roots”.

"In Yemen, people are being heavily bombed for five years and their lives have been destroyed, and this has made Yemenis very angry, while the Yemeni armed forces have made tremendous progress in the last six months, which has surprised us all," he said

Dr Rouhani added, “So the way to prevent tensions is to try to promote peace and security in the region. The Yemeni war must end and the US must stop illegal pressures on the Iranian people”.

The president said, “It is a big embarrassment for the US government for not being able to intercept a missile with so many radars and all the equipment deployed in the region with the money of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and Iraq”.

On the statement by the three European countries, he said, "First of all, I personally asked the leaders of these three European countries why you say Iran has contributed to the attack? They had no reason, but they only said one thing that the planning for these attacks was higher than the Yemenis’ capabilities”.

Dr Rouhani pointed out, “I even told the British Prime Minister that I would like receive any evidence you have, but they have no evidence but speculations and it is bad for these countries to speak based on speculations. In addition to the fact that all three countries are collaborating with the United States in the Yemen war and supplying weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Therefore, they are involved in the war and cannot judge”.

"We asked them to send us the documents and evidence. Their only document is that their estimates of the Yemenis' capabilities are much less than being able to carry out such an attack, and I asked them why didn’t you say these things when the Yemenis attacked Jeddah, Yanbu, Dammam and Sharjah in the past months”.

The president also responded to a question about the US government's anti-Iranian sanctions, saying, "The US government should think about what benefits have the severe sanctions had for them. This action is to the detriment of the United States itself, our trading partners, and the Iranian people, and on the other hand, it has committed economic terrorism by imposing such sanctions on the people”.

Dr Rouhani said, “The United States thought that by imposing sanctions, it could provoke the Iranian people against the government, but today it has become increasingly clear that people are consciously aware that the main problem is from the side of the US".

The President noted, “Iran has fulfilled all its obligations based on the 16 IAEA reports and that US sanctions are contrary to Security Council resolution. Therefore, as these sanctions continue, the result is increased public hatred against the American government”.

Dr Rouhani added, "Of course, people will be under pressure, but the Iranian economy has so far adapted itself to the new US sanctions."

The president responded to a question about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying, "We had a seven-party commitment under the JCPOA, which the UN Security Council has endorsed. The party that withdrew from it was the US government”.
