Tripartite summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey begins in Ankara

The second tripartite summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey on Syria began on Wednesday in Ankara with Dr Hassan Rouhani, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan taking part.

Upon arrival at the summit hall, the presidents of Iran and the Russian Federation were welcomed by their Turkish counterpart, and then the three presidents posed for photos.

The second tripartite summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey is taking place with the aim of discussing the Syrian crisis and the results of negotiations on the matter.

Before this summit, the three presidents attended another summit in Sochi, Russia, and issued a joint statement on Syria.

Maintaining territorial integrity of Syria, protecting the tension-free areas created at the end of the Astana summit, the steps needed to politically resolve the issue and the fight against terrorism will be the main topics of the agenda of the meeting.

Before the summit, Dr Rouhani had separate bilateral meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Turkey and President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation.
