Iran determined to cement ties with South Africa in all fields/Tehran ready to cooperate with Pretoria in technical-engineering services

President met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa, Baleka Mbete and described Tehran-Pretoria ties friendly and growing, adding: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to deepen ties with African countries, particularly South Africa in all fields of mutual interest.

In the meeting that was held on Saturday in Tehran, Dr Rouhani referred to Iranian nation supporting South African people's uprising against racism led by Nelson Mandela and expressed satisfaction over good, developing relations between Tehran and Pretoria after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Describing the role of parliaments in fostering relations between the two countries, Dr Rouhani said: "Tehran welcomes cooperation with Pretoria in economic fields, in particular mining and energy, more than before and we are ready to export technical and engineering services to South Africa".

Referring to the South African president's last year visit to Tehran as effective for deepening ties, he expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries develop in the banking sector as well.

On the importance of tourism, he said: "By deepening cooperation in tourism, the people of the two countries can become familiar with each other's natural and historical attractions, which contributes to cementing of relations".

President Rouhani also went on to mention close views of Iran and South Africa in many international and regional issues, adding: "Iran and South Africa can cooperate more with each other in international communities and help foster peace and stability in the world and secure the interests of developing countries".

The Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa, Baleka Mbete also appreciated Iran's hospitality in receiving his country's parliamentary delegation and stressed Pretoria's firm resolve to develop and deepen ties with Tehran more than before in all fields of mutual interest".

"We are seeking ways of developing relations and cooperation between the two countries. The parliament of South Africa welcomes deepening of this cooperation and the members of the parliament call of Iran's participation in developmental projects," she added.

She also went on to say: "We must foster cooperation in international circles and organisations with the aim of promoting peace and friendship in the international stage".
