In the meeting that was held on Sunday, Dr Rouhani added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is among the first countries that recognised Moldova's independence and the two countries have since established close and friendly ties with each other for the past 25 years".

Iran welcomes deepening comprehensive ties with Moldova, continued the President adding: "Iran and Moldova are situated in critical regions of Asia and Europe and we must vigilantly resist against hardships and complications of the region to serve our nations' interests".

"If a nation is always united and integrated, attempting to achieve its interests, it will never fail. On the other hand, in the current conditions of the world, independent countries that are not under pressure by world powers must stand together," the President added.

He also referred to post-JCPOA era and 80% increase in economic relations with the European Union and 70% in relations with Russia, saying: "Today after the nuclear agreement, conditions are ideal for developing Iran's economic relations with friend countries, including Moldova".

Dr Rouhani also stressed the need for further interaction between the authorities of the two countries and consultation in various fields such as science, technology, and research and academic centres, as well as international and tourism fields.

"We believe that in today's world, one must not seek to create a new block, but rather all countries must seek to deepen ties to serve common interests," the President said.

During the meeting, the President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, also congratulated Dr Rouhani on his re-election and said: "Certainly, Iran-Moldova relations will enter a new level in 2017".

He also described friendship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Moldova in line with national interests of his country and called for further development of economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

President of Moldova went on to say: "High-ranking delegations from over 100 countries attending Iranian President's inauguration indicates that attempts to isolate Tehran have failed".
