Ayatollah Raisi leaves Tehran for Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed a high-ranking political and economic delegation to Turkmenistan to attend the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO).

Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi left Tehran for Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, on Saturday evening at the official invitation of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
The President, who was seen off by the Head of the Office of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mohammadi Golpayegani, the First Vice President, and a number of cabinet ministers, is going to attend the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), explain the positions and proposals of the Islamic Republic of Iran in strengthening regional and international relations, especially the removal of obstacles and increasing the level of cooperation and economic exchanges of ECO member countries.
Ayatollah Raisi is also going to meet with his counterparts participating in the summit to discuss ways to develop and deepen bilateral relations.
Meeting with Iranians living in Turkmenistan, Iranian businesspersons and participants in the ECO summit is another programme of the President's visit.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan are 10 members of the ECO.
The 15th ECO Summit will be hosted by Turkmenistan on Sunday, December 28th, and the country will chair the ECO.
