Speaking on Saturday at the meeting of the National Task Force Against Coronavirus, Dr Hassan Rouhani stated that these days in different countries in Europe, Russia and East Asia, we are witnessing a new wave of the disease.

He added, "This is why we cannot talk about the future with certainty, and observing the health protocols is still necessary,” he said.

Explaining the measures and efforts made over the past 16 months to combat COVID-19, Dr Rouhani said, "Since the beginning of the outbreak of this disease in the country, both in the management of the disease and reducing its consequences on various sectors, great work has been done and we have minimised the social, economic, educational and cultural effects of COVID-19”.

Dr Rouhani further referred to the measures taken to produce vaccines in the country and said, "Vaccine production was considered by the government from the first day and we decided to support vaccine production centres. While many viewed domestic production of the vaccine as a waste of time, the government pursued a policy of encouragement and assistance”.

"As soon as knowledge-based companies and experts started researching the production of COVID-19 vaccines, some people questioned the purchase of vaccines from abroad, but we believed that this was also wrong, and we acted to buy foreign vaccines”.

Dr Rouhani stated that the two vaccines of Barekat and Pasteur have received the license for public injection and other samples will be released in the coming weeks and months, adding, "Today, we are facing a good variety of vaccines and the arrival of these vaccines can meet a large part of the needs of the country and we may also export them”.

Emphasising that we should be proud of the great work done by scientists and knowledge-based companies in the production of domestic vaccines, the President said, "Domestic vaccines are a great honour for the Islamic Republic of Iran and what the Supreme Leader did yesterday in using domestic the vaccine was a very valuable move”.

Dr Rouhani added, "While the Supreme Leader could have taken the foreign vaccine much earlier, he preferred to use the domestic vaccine and this encouraged our country's scientists to a great extent and such spiritual encouragement is not comparable to material issues".

The President also said, "The Supreme Leader has always supported science, knowledge and technology, and today the atmosphere of science, knowledge, technology and invention prevails in the country".

Dr Rouhani expressed hope that by the end of this government, the elderly would receive the vaccine and that when the government is handed over, 4 or 5 types of domestic vaccines would be ready to be offered to the market.

At the beginning of his speech, commemorating the memory of Martyr Ayatollah Beheshti and congratulating the Judiciary Week, the President said, “The Judiciary has a heavy responsibility for the security and justice in the country and peace of the people”.
