Speaking on Thursday at the inauguration ceremony of the Ministry of Energy projects in Bushehr and West Azerbaijan provinces, Dr Hassan Rouhani expressed his condolences to the American people who have taken to the streets to protest the death of George Floyd, and stressed, "Iran strongly condemns the crimes of the United States and the White House, which are issuing orders for these crimes".

"Given the hard times of the United States on one of the worst days in the country's political and social history, we are witnessing a great oppression on African-Americans and all Americans who politically reject the current White House positions," he said.

Dr Rouhani said that the killing of George Floyd showed the relationship between human beings in the world, adding, "This story showed that when an oppressed person is killed in the world, the whole world moves and it doesn't matter if the person killed is a Muslim, a Christian, American or non-American, but rather what is important for the world is that someone has been killed in the most brutal and savage way".

"This also shows that there is still a long way to go before we reach the global and human civilisation that the prophets and the great prophet Islam have talked about," he said.

"We strongly condemn the crimes of the United States; the crimes that are taking place in the United States today and the rulers of the White House who are ordering these crimes," the president said.

Dr Rouhani said that the Bible is a heavenly book and a holy book that invites all people to peace and humanity, adding, "It is a shame that a president who wants to act against his people takes the Bible and raises the Bible, and this angers all the Abrahamic religions, because the Bible is sacred to all of us, and we respect the Bible and Jesus Christ".

The President added, "In a situation where all the people of the world are looking at the White House with anger and hatred today, all our friends in the world are witnessing that our people have come to the stage with all their might to open big projects".

In another part of his speech, Dr Rouhani stated that we need the help of the people to manage water and electricity consumption in the country, and said, "Considering the difficult conditions we are facing this year due to coronavirus, we should not let water and electricity problems arise".

The President said that the announcement of the opening of 18 power plant projects by the end of this year is good news for the Iranian people and said, "Today, one of our power plants was opened in Assaluyeh at a cost of 2.24 trillion tomans. Also, a total of 9 dams will be opened this year, and Oshnavieh Dam is the third dam to be opened since the beginning of the year, and another 6 dams will be opened by the end of the year".

Dr Rouhani referred to electricity exchanges with neighbouring countries and said, "I am glad that we have a very good relationship with our neighbours in the field of electricity today, that is, on the day when they need us, we export electricity to them and vice versa. This exchange means that relations with our neighbours are not only important in the world of politics, but also in the world of economy, culture and tourism, scientific and technological cooperation, and academia".

"I believe that no relationship in foreign policy is more important than the relationship with our neighbours," the president said, adding, "We have 15 neighbours and we have to have very good and close relations with these 15 neighbours because it stabilises the borders and national security, and fortunately we have good relations with these 13 neighbours and with some of them our relations are very close, sincere, brotherly and friendly. Unfortunately, one or two countries in the south distanced themselves from the good people of Iran. Well, we did not initiate this distance, and we always want to have good and close relations with our neighbours".

Referring to Iran's gas exports to Turkey and Iraq, Dr Rouhani said, "We are ready to export gas to Pakistan, India and Oman, and of course agreements have been signed in these cases, and in practice steps have been taken in this direction. The same is true of electricity, and we have a close relationship with Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq and other countries in this area, that is, we take or export electricity from them, and in this regard, during the visit of the Minister of Energy to Iraq, an agreement for two years Electricity was signed in Iraq".

Appreciating the naming of this year as the Year of Surge in Production by the Supreme Leader, the President said, "We should all help the production to transform and our people must be absolutely sure that the government will pay attention to the country's economy and infrastructure despite the difficulties".

Dr Rouhani said, "The events of June 1963 were not ordinary, and perhaps no one thought that such a move would be made throughout Iran because of the arrest of Imam Khomeini as the leader of the movement and the great Shiite authority, and that people would sacrifice their lives for the Islamic Movement".
