Dr Rouhani in a phone call with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development:

Prepare for resumption of border exchanges and transportation of goods with neighbouring countries in accordance with health protocols/ Plan for the rapid completion of projects with 80%+ progress

Referring to the need to resume border exchanges and transportation of goods with neighbouring countries with the aim of strengthening economic and trade cooperation, the President stressed the need for the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development to take the necessary measures to complete this as soon as possible with full observance of health protocols.

In a telephone conversation with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development on Friday, Dr Hassan Rouhani referred to his recent talks with the leaders of some countries, including neighbouring countries, and these countries' willingness to resume border exchanges and transportation of goods, instructing the minister to make necessary arrangements for this purpose as soon as possible, with full observance of health protocols.

Dr Rouhani was also informed about the latest situation of the country's transportation in the period of implementing Smart Distancing scheme, emphasising the application of creative plans in the field of transportation and said, "The distancing scheme put forward by the Ministry of Health should be made in such a way as to prevent the spread of the disease while eliminating people's concerns".

In the phone call, the president also stressed the need to complete unfinished projects in the country, despite the difficult economic conditions caused by unfair US sanctions and the economic consequences of coronavirus outbreak, with the aim of fulfilling the motto of "Surge in Production, stressing, "The necessary measures should be taken to complete the projects with more than 80 percent physical progress".

Dr Rouhani further emphasised the need to provide basic goods needed by the people and provided the market with essential and basic goods, appreciating the measures taken in this regard, stressing that the 4 million tonnes of basic goods that are currently at customs must be released as soon as possible.

Mr Mohammad Eslami, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, also gave a comprehensive report on the implementation process of the ministry's plans and projects, as well as the status of the National Housing Action Scheme.

Referring to the measures taken to modernise the railway fleet and use the opportunity of Note 18 in this regard, he said, "In the year 1398, very good measures were taken to produce wagons and locomotives, and it can be said that a new record has been set in this field".

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development referred to the need to rebuild and improve the country's passenger and cargo fleet, adding, "This year, the improvement, beautification and strengthening of existing wagons, both passenger and cargo, is on the agenda".
