President Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on the sidelines of the third Summit of the Caspian Sea littoral stares in Baku, Azerbaijan.



In the meeting, the two presidents underlined that adopting a common stand would help broaden political and economic cooperation between the two countries.



The Islamic Republic of Iran is capable enough to meet its requirements, underlined the Iranian president, adding that the neighborly relations between both countries require both sides to adopt a close and common stand to the benefit of both sides as well as the entire region.



Imposing sanctions against Iran would be of no use, said the president, adding that the era of bullying and sanctions is now over and it would be very interesting to know that the European countries are now striving to increase investment in Iran and raise current volume of trade exchange with the country.



The world is now undergoing rapid changes and evolution, said the president adding that Iran is opposed to inhumane behaviors of western powers and believes that if the whole world gets united along with Iran and Russia, the enemies of both countries and the region will not succeed in carrying out their plots.



Bolstering of mutual and regional relations would be to the benefit of Iran and Russia, said the Iranian president.



The Russian president, for his part, called for improvement of political, economic and even military cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.



After the UN sanctions against Iran, some tried to create tougher situation for Iran but Russia strongly opposed them and remained committed to its pledges as a neighbor, he said.



Russia seeks to broaden ties with Iran, he said, adding that the two countries should take firm steps to bolster friendship and cooperation.
