President urges Judiciary chief to inquire into Neda’s murder
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday requested the Judiciary chief to hold inquiry into Neda Agha-Sultan’s murder on street which happened away from demonstrations in "a suspicious way”.
In a letter to Judiciary chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, the president called for identification of those involved in Neda’s murder.
The 26-year-old Neda was shot dead on June 20 on street of Tehran. News of her death has provoked both national and international sentiments.
“As you are informed one of our respectful citizens, Neda Agha-Soltan, was shot dead in a completely suspicious way in one of Tehran’s streets by unknown agents,” the president wrote to Ayatollah Shahroudi.
“Enormous propaganda fuss made around this heart-rending incident as well as the massive smearing campaign of Western media and existence of other clear indications, have proved involvement of the opponents and enemies of the Iranian nation in efforts to take political advantage of the incident and damage the clear image of the Islamic Republic.”
Therefore, the president told Ayatollah Shahroudi “to instruct the judiciary establishment to follow up the case of her death more seriously, identify those involved in this crime and put them to trial and then inform the noble Iranian people of the results of the investigation.”
