Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday held talks with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev on issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of the 8th Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, President Ahmadinejad cited Iran-Kazakh ties as cordial and brotherly.



He underlined that the expansion of cooperation among the regional states will thwart the influence of Western countries in the region.



Referring to the two countries economic cooperation, Iranian president called for boosting mutual ties in all fields.



The president said that the Islamic Republic of Iran gives significance to Iran's ties with the regional nations.



Nazarbayev, for his part, termed the two countries ties as excellent, voicing the the Kazakh government's readiness to expand cooperation with Iran.
