Speaking in a cabinet session on Wednesday, Dr Hassan Rouhani said: "Her Holiness Fatima al-Zahra (SA) is a beautiful and good example for all people around the world. Patience, endurance, worship, faith and defending the right can be our guide and role model".

Stating the woman's day is not only a protocol in Iran, he said: "In fact, woman's day means renewing allegiance to the culture of Islam and the instructions of the Quran and the lifestyle of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Imams (AS) towards women in the society".

"We do not believe in patriarchy, matriarchy, misogyny, misandry" said Rouhani adding: "Both men and women are human beings and enjoy dignity before God".

He added: 'We believe that most of the gender gap that we see today in the world are incorrect and what Islam demands ids true justice and gender equality".

"Fortunately today, women in our society are after their true rights and from the beginning of the victory of the Islamic Revolution until today, have had a good role in science, knowledge and social participation," Dr Rouhani continued.

Referring to the role of women in the victory of the Islamic Revolution and based on what Imam Khomeini (RA) believed, he said: "Today, women have a very significant participation in all elections, demonstrations, social issues, management, science, academia, medicine and various responsibilities".

The President added: "Today, because of the cyberspace, woman have new opportunities to both voice their opinions and demonstrate their knowledge and beliefs, working for respectful jobs".

"Therefore, woman's day means that we want to praise mothers and woman, and more importantly, take the best advantage of the lifestyle of Her Holiness Fatima al-Zahra (SA), the Imams and the Prophet of Islam (PBUH)," continued Rouhani.

Stating that what is important is that we must not let immorality penetrate in our society and divide us apart, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also said: "The issues of the country must be solved in in doing so, we must all join hands".

He also said that some are wrong to think that they speak for the people and the government must just be accountable, adding: "The government has responsibilities and is accountable about its responsibilities, however, all institutions, branches, pillars and organs are responsible towards people and all must be accountable and act based on the constitution".

"It is the president who can speak about the constitution, raise questions, remind and ask for explanation based on the constitution itself, therefore, we must all carry out our responsibilities," continued Rouhani.

Saying that some think that it is still the time of elections, he said: "Some words are coming from people, but if we delve into those words, the meaning is that we are still in the time of elections and presidential campaigns".

"Today is the day of solving people's problems and everybody must join hands on this path," said Rouhani adding: "Everybody has the right to criticise and defamation does not mean criticism".

He also went on to say: "If anybody thinks that undermining the government will strengthen the state and institutions, they are wrong".

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also said: "Economic, cultural, political, social power, especially military power of the Islamic Republic of Iran is not against any country".

He continued: "Those who created Sabra and Shatila have no right to speak about Iran's threat. Iran is not a threat to anyone, Iran is the source of stability and security for the entire region, but of course, it will defend its right with all its might".
